Words of Wisdom from a Teacher I Can’t Remember

As I am in the process of packing and getting ready to move, I was sorting through papers and junk and managed to find a letter I kept from my pre-school teacher from the late 80s. Apparently, she had written each of her students a letter and gave them to our parents- not to be opened until we graduated college. I placed it in a folder and forgot about it right now. Along with the personalized letter was a prayer she gave to all the students that made me stop and think and wanted to share:

Desiderata

“Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is. May persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with your God whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.” – Found in Old Saint Paul’s Church. Baltimore, dated 1692

Support the Downtown Tampa Attractions Association

If you live in Tampa, you already know about some of the amazing and fun events that are hosted in the downtown area and are absolutely free. The Downtown Tampa Attractions Association works hard to bring together our community by continuing to make these events happen.

Well they are at it again by hosting a Happy Hour at Tina Tapas in Channelside on Wednesday night at 6:00PM. $10 all you can drink Barefoot wine and Hors d’oeuvres. The weather has finally cooled out and now its time to be outside enjoying it… what better place to be than on the water relaxing for a few after work?

Back up and running

I’ve had some serious problems with this blog and finally got into the down and dirty with my hosting service who helped me identify some malicious activity that has caused this site to go up and down for the last few months… it happened so often that I almost abandoned this project. Hopefully, thanks to some advice from people on twitter, this site will stay up for good with no problems.

So this is my test post and we shall see if it stays up when I wake up tomorrow…
