Accelerating Your Learning

In the transformation into becoming an entrepreneur, I find that there is a clearing where everything you have learned and trained yourself in the past must be let go in order to create something purely from a thought.

Here are a few items that I have been practicing and applying that may help you:

  1. Ready, Fire, Aim- Just get out of the starting gates and start making your first steps towards your goal. With information more accessible more than ever, it is easy to get lost by trying to take in too much information and then applying it. Go out and start making headway towards your goals. Find what obstacles you encounter and then start finding answers. Action first, answers later.
  2. Learn from the top- Find a networking groups that are relevant to your industry and market. Seek who are the leaders and experts and ask questions or sit silently and let them share their knowledge. Take notes of everything they say and then immediately review by yourself. It is easy to say you can do everything on your own, but if you really want to accelerate the learning curve, find the experts and adhere to what they have to say. From there years of experience, you can learn what truly works and what doesn’t.
  3. Find the patterns- Principles never die, they are consistent and  outlast any market cycles. The successful know the principles that are core to their industry and they adhere to them on a daily basis and practice them. Find out what the core principles of your industry are and then adapt what you are doing right now to ensure you are adhering to them. How do you find these principles? (See #2) Network with the industry leaders in your area and listen what they have to say, you’ll notice specific keywords, concepts, authors, books, etc. that will be mentioned over and over again- there is a reason for this, follow the patterns.
  4. Find the trends- Find out what people are doing in your field to innovate. Use collective intelligence sources like Twitter, Google Trends, Google Insight to find out what is being searched and relevant. Find out how these trends are adapted from the patterns in #3. Learn what the innovative people are doing to take your industry to a new level.
