Don’t Let Thoughts Escape

This is going to be a short post of an experiment I did today-

As the startup I am working on goes closer to its full launch, I have a million ideas spinning in my head. It was not on purpose, but I started writing everything down on index cards and then in a notebook. My best ideas and insights came when I was doing other things and I just wrote them down. No fancy programs or applications, just an old fashioned pen and paper.

Here is the direct effect of how it helped me:

  • Usually when an inspired though comes to my head, I like to play around with it- often leading me to get distracted from what I am doing in the present. Therefore, work not getting efficiently done. By recording my thoughts, I have time to get back to what I was doing and review it later allowing me to create the space to give myself fully on what needs to be done.
  • At brief intervals during the day, I just browsed the list and then got back to work…. the result? More focused, energetic thoughts and/or more thoughts that branched off ones I had previously. I can almost guarantee it has something to do with the subconscious at play. The mind is a beautiful machine, it automatically helps me find the answers when I am not thinking about them.

The next few days I am going to keep on following the same exercise. Also add in time constraints to see how well I do under self-imposed deadlines. Will share the results.
